VIVA Physicians presented the second Vascular Leaders Forum (VLF) April 6 in Washington, D.C., bringing together stakeholders in patient care to explore the complexities of treating patients with carotid artery disease and ways to increase access to care. The first VLF was held in 2016 and was a natural extension of VIVA Physicians’ advocacy mission.
Physician and other medical professional leaders, representatives from the FDA and Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS), and relevant industry partners focused on exposing current limitations in healthcare delivery, finding solutions to the challenges of existing treatment options, and investigating issues of reimbursement for carotid stenting.
Participants also took a critical look at the current data for asymptomatic and symptomatic carotid intervention, as well as examined CMS issues on training and hospital accreditation and credentialing.
A white paper summarizing the group’s findings and the consensus is expected be published later this year.
